Issue 1 34 banned the work of Russian educational institutions; however, they were forced to suspend their activities for financial reasons, as the Russian émigré community lacked the means to maintain them. Russian House in Bela Crkva, today's appearance III. Lectures and Courses Even in the interwar period, lectures and courses were a favored activity among Russian émigrés. During World War II, mainly in Belgrade, various courses and lectures were organized with the aim of preserving and developing spiritual life. Accordingly, evening courses in religious instruction were held at the Russian House in Belgrade, especially during July and August 1941, as well as military lectures, which were largely theoretical, that is, military-historical in nature. 26 In addition, practical courses were organized to support basic subsistence. One such course, taught by physicians, offered knowledge in hygiene and medicine, that is, practical skills related to immobilization, infectious diseases, and first aid. Also noteworthy were a two-month police-administrative course for amateurs and for officials employed in administration and the judiciary, a course on the reconstruction of damaged bridges, courses in the German language and typing, and a gardening course. Most courses, which were generally held in the evening, were conducted with financial contributions from the participants, although there were also courses in which professors lectured free of charge. At the end of some courses, diplomas were awarded that enabled employment in the private sector. A particular feature were pedagogical courses organized for primary and secondary school teachers, which began at the Russian House on 1 September 1941 . 27 These courses covered the history of Russian education, pedagogical psychology, methods of teaching mathematics and natural sciences, the history of the Russian language, and the history of the Law of God. 26 Timofeev A.
