Issue 1 33 Girls' Institute, Bela Crkva, around 1930 In the new, smaller building, on the ground floor there were dormitories, a gym, a church, a recreation room with a record player, Russian records, and chess. On the first floor there were senior cadet dormitories, the museum, the library, and the director's office. In the garden courtyard there were workshops, a kitchen, and a dining hall, and classrooms were in a separate building from the former gendarmerie. The curriculumwas similar to that of the Belgrade Male Grammar School, except there were more physical education classes. There were no military subjects until October 1943 when cadets received rifles and ammunition. 22 Within the Corps, there were literary and drama sections, as well as sections for physics, chemistry, athletics, and typewriting. Theoretical, practical, and moral education were provided through classes, as well as through work in carpentry and shoe-making workshops. The Cadet Corps was a boarding-type educational institution, so tuition fees were slightly higher, amounting to 800 dinars per month. They received free transportation from local Germans, allowing them to travel throughout Serbia. At the beginning of September 1944, the evacuation of the Russian émigré community began, and, together with them, the cadets left for Vienna by train. 23 Unlike the Cadet Corps, the Girls’ Institute in Bela Crkva did not operate during wartime . 24 Instruction was interrupted at the end of March 1941, although the students took their final exams in June of that year. In the autumn of 1941, the teachers of the Girls' Institute organized classes for all girls fromBela Crkva and other parts of Banat. However, already at the beginning of the next year, in winter 1942, teaching was permanently discontinued . 25 It is noteworthy that neither the German nor the Serbian authorities 22 Timofeev A.
